Studio Pilates Alma opened it’s doors back in November of 2009, by Rocío Carrasco Fonseca and Polly Foka. Based at the heart of Kolonaki, in elegant space both well lit and easy on the eye, it consists the ideal atmosphere for working out whether in a group or individually. Alma is derived from the greek word which signifies leaps and bounds and the Spanish for soul, encapsulating the dedication to contemporary learning of the Pilates method in Greece.
Alma with the sole aim of offering a new and vibrant take on the Pilates method of exercise tries to achieve the ultimate goal of wellness, balance and strength which is integral to this form of exercise.
Rocío is a graduate of the Physical Exercise and Athletics department at the University of Madrid. She specialized both in the Foundation for the therapeutic treatment of Physical exercise for adults and elderly as well as Physical Education and General health. On completion of her studies she worked as Pilates instructor at the athletics centre “Ebone” in Granada for five years. Focusing on her work with the elderly, she remained a key coordinator at the centre.
Rocío came to Greece in 2007 where she began her training in Power Pilates, which comprises of 600 hours of practical exercise as well as the study of anatomy, physiology, philosophy and the history of Pilates.
She worked at differents Pilates studios in Athens and in private tuition.
In 2009 Rocío opened her own studio, together Polly Foka.
She keeps following continuing education seminars, with Pilates Master teachers such as Lolita San Miguel, Jay Grimes, Richard Orbach and Brent Anderson, in Athens and abroad as well.
Polly studied Dance and History of Art at the American College in Greece (Deree College). In 2000 she was acquainted with the Pilates method, and became a devoted student. In 2006 she completed her training at the Corpus Ray studio under Bob Liekens who is universally acknowledged as one of the most celebrated instructors of Power Pilates and a pupil of Romana Kryzanovska. During her training she has completed over 600 hours of practical exercise. During 1997-2007 she studied classical ballet at the Olympia Gelodaris school. From then until now, still doing ballet with Tania Miltenova.
From 2006 to 2009 Polly worked at the Corpus Ray centre as one of it’s principal instructors. She has also worked at the San Tsai Pilates Studio in Kifisia and has extensive experience in private tuition.
In 2009 Polly opened her own studio, together with Rocio Carrasco Fonseca, which they named Alma!
